Now that the "Governator," Arnold Schwarzenegger, has completed his second term as 38th governor of California, the question on many people's minds is whether or not he will return to acting and, if so, will he re-team with the man who made him a superstar in The Terminator, writer-director James Cameron. Prior to the opening of Avatar, Cameron said that he thinks Schwarzenegger "wants to come back to Hollywood" and that he was "thinking about things that [they] could do together," but now that Fox has ordered up two more installments of Cameron's Avatar, it appears as if any collaboration between the two titans may be off-screen, rather than on.
It’s probably more likely that we might work together on something non-film. Because we’re both really passionate advocates and activists for the environment and climate change, renewable energy, and so on. The strides that he made while in office he sees not only as part of his legacy but the foundation for some of the things he wants to do beyond that.
The idea of making a movie together is always a fun concept. I’m tied up for the next five years and Arnold tends to be rather impatient when he sets his sights on goals. So I don’t know how well that’s going to work out because I’ve signed on for two more Avatar films, which is a big chunk.
Fox has tentatively slated a December 2014 release for Avatar 2, with plans to release Avatar 3 the following December. There is no word on whether or not Cameron plans to shoot the two movies back-to-back or not. Plot details are being kept under wraps, but producer Jon Landau said that Avatar 2 "will kick off" where Avatar ended, which means we will likely see the return of Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana as the nine-foot tall blue-furred Na'vi.
