Summit Entertainment Joins the Night Circus

Summit Entertainment bought the movie rights to Night Circus , a manuscript for a young adult novel from first-time writer Erin Morgenstern. According to Heat Vision , "the novel is set at the turn of the 19th century, telling the story of two young magicians, pawns in an age-old rivalry between their mercurial, illusionist fathers, and the enchanted circus where their competition (and romances) play out. Fates of everyone involved – from creators and performers to patrons hang in the duo's balance." The book will be published later this year.
   
   
The Three Stooges Movie Story Structure

While shooting down some recent casting rumors, The Three Stooges co-writer/co-director Peter Farrelly revealed more details about how the film's story will be structured. He said that you'll be seeing the Moe, Larry and Curly you know on-screen. "They're going to look the same, dress the same, sound the same, act the same, with the same sound effects." While it was know the movie will be divided up into three acts, Farrelly talked more about each part. Most of it will be set in the present day, except for the first act, which begins 40 years ago. "A car whips by an orphanage, throws a duffel bag out its window and keeps going," Farrelly says. Wonder Woman TV Show Not Moving Forward

Entertainment Weekly reports that the David E. Kelley-scripted "Wonder Woman" series wasn't able to find a home, as all the major broadcasters have passed on the project: Warner Bros. TV was actively shopping a script from David E. Kelley that updated the period tale about an Amazon princess who battled Nazis and other bad guys during World War II. One source close to the project said the Wonder Woman team won't give up on the project, even though it's "not moving forward at this time." The magazine suggests that one of the deciding factors may have been the cost of the series, which the studio requiring a license fee for its superhero.

Details are spilling out about the currently-in-production The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn and USA Today has had a chance to speak with producer Wyck Godfrey to verify a number of the routes the cinematic adaptation will take in adapting the original novel. The Hunger Games to Aim for PG-13

Director Gary Ross has revealed to EW that his adaptation of the bestselling Suzanne Collins novel, The Hunger Games is planned for a PG-13 rating to accommodate the book's teenage fans. "It's their story," Ross says, "and they deserve to be able to access it completely. And I don't think it needs to be more extreme than that." The science fiction novel, aimed at young adults, tells the tale of dystopic future and the annual "Hunger Games", a fight to the death on live television. Ross, best known for Pleasantville and Seabiscuit is currently developing the project at Lionsgate.

Since it was announced, The Hobbit has spawned rumors that characters from the original three films would make an appearance despite their not appearing specifically in the original text of J.R.R. Tolkein's novel. Earlier today, Deadline offered more specific details, indicating that the actors likely to return include Orlando Bloom and Elijah Wood in addition to the more obvious potential casting of Ian McKellan and Andy Serkis (whose characters both play prominent roles in the original story). Eminem is attached to a 20th Century Fox project called Random Acts of Violence , writes Vulture . The rapper-turned-actor would star in the crime thriller, which is said to feature an ex-con caught between his former gang and the FBI, who want him to work as a snitch. The original article also suggests that the writer of the current draft, David Von Ancken, will likely direct after completing work on upcoming episodes of "Californication". Eminem famously made a dramatic turn in 2002's 8 Mile . Directed by Curtis Hanson, that film was inspired by events in the artist's own life.
   
   
Mark Wahlberg Still Says He is Nathan Drake

There's been a bit of back and forth ( see here ) about who is telling the truth about Sony Pictures' big screen adaptation of the video game Uncharted: Drake's Fortune , but The Fighter star Mark Wahlberg tells Moviehole he's definitely attached: Firstly, Wahlberg is indeed – despite the incessant requests to see Nathan Fillion cast instead – set to play Nathan Drake in the feature film version of Playstation game series "Uncharted". There's suggestion's Wahlberg's not a lock, even talk that the film's nowhere near happening, but according to the actor it's happening… and sometime mid-year. "David O'Russell is writing right now and hopes to direct", Wahlberg says. "It's myself, Joe Pesci and Robert De Niro". There's no word yet on when the movie may hit theaters.
   
   
Nicolas Cage on Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance

While promoting this week's release of Season of the Witch, Nicolas Cage spoke with UKPA and offered a few updates on the upcoming Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance . Cage told the outlet that the sequel would depart from the 2007 original in several major ways, including offering a brand-new origin sequence reinvisioned by the directing pair of Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor. What's more, Cage promises some "wild" filming techniques. "The director's on rollerblades," he said, "and hanging from wires with the camera, holding on to the motorcycle..." Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance is planned for release on February 17, 2012.
   
   
Ramirez and Kebbell Joining Titans Sequel

TheWrap reports that Carlos star Edgar Ramirez is in negotiations to play Ares in Clash of the Titans 2 , while The Sorcerer's Apprentice co-star Toby Kebbell has been offered the role of Agenor. The site adds that Bill Nighy is being courted to play Hephaestus, while Captain America star Hayley Atwell is on the short list for the role of Andromeda. Other actresses being considered for the role are Georgina Haig, Janet Montgomery, Dominique McElligott and Clemence Poesy. To be directed by Jonathan Liebesman, the Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures sequel will again star Sam Worthington, Gemma Arterton, Ralph Fiennes and Liam Neeson. UFC fighter Randy Couture ( The Expendables ) is joining the cast of director Mike Gunther's Set Up , which is shooting in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The cast includes Bruce Willis, Ryan Phillippe, Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson and Jenna Dewan Tatum. The movie revolves around a group of friends who are catapulted into the middle of a diamond heist that turns deadly. Couture will play an enforcer who works for a local crime lord (Willis) tasked to oversee Jackson on an assignment. Gunther co-wrote the script with Mike Behrman.
   
   
Paramount Takes on Wheeler Dealers

Paramount Pictures has bought Michael Lerner's pitch Wheeler Dealers , based on the tale of a recent munitions contract gone awry. The studio has set the project up at Will Smith and James Lassiter's Overbrook Entertainment and Brett Ratner's Rat Entertainment. According to Variety , the movie is based on the story of Efraim Diveroli, "whose AEY company received a $300 million contract in 2007 to supply ordnance to Afghan security forces. Diveroli pleaded guilty this week to plotting to ship prohibited Chinese ammunition to the war and was sentenced to four years in federal prison." Lerner will write the script.

Spartacus and Mad Men to Continue

Starz confirmed today at the Television Critics Association press tour that the second season of "Spartacus: Blood and Sand" will start shooting this spring for a 2012 premiere. The big question is who will replace the cancer-stricken Andy Whitfield in the title role. Starz says they have not cast the role yet but that the field of candidates is narrowing. The "Spartacus" prequel, "Gods of the Arena," debuts on Friday, January 21. In other TV news, AMC president Joe Stillerman announced today that "Mad Men is definitely coming back for season 5, but don't ask me when, because we're not sure yet." Apollo 18 Lands on Another Release Date

ShockTillYouDrop.com reports that The Weinstein Company has pushed back the release date for Apollo 18 from March 4 to April 22, just a week after the studio's own Scream 4 is released in theaters. Directed by Gonzalo Lopez-Gallego, the "found footage" sci-fi thriller was written by Brian Miller. Game News: The Tomb Raider Trilogy on March 22

Universal Pictures has signed Paul Rudd and Leslie Mann to star in the Untitled Judd Apatow Project . The film will feature an original story with characters created by Rudd and Mann in Knocked Up . Apatow is writing, directing and producing the June 1, 2012 release, produced by Barry Mendel and Clayton Townsend.
